Then and Now

It
took me by surprise
didn’t think it’d happen
was lying to myself
pretending life was perfect

then it hit me
it was there
no notice and
no warning
darkness from above it came
a moment of truth

tears filled my eyes
one stab to my heart
shattered hopes &
broken dreams
There was no going back
no erasing facts.

I laid on my bed
wondering why?.

Questions go unanswered,
mind goes too fast
I finally stop and recover
and get ready to restart.

Time has passed and wounds have healed
almost back to how it was.. or is it?

Now I wait for it to happen
Now I watch for it to come
crashing in without a warning
ravaging all it confronts.

I wear my scar with pride
reminded of the pain
satisfaction of survival
I am here now.. that was then.
